What’s not to like about Obama’s new HAFA program (Home Affordable Mortgage Alternatives program)

Well, I guess we will need to wait and see – wait and see if the Realtor gets any relief from the grueling, challenging, protracted fiasco commonly know as the “short sale”. That’s right, the short sale is anything but “short”. Realtors who have been brave (desperate) enough to tackle short sales may have a new friend as of April 5, 2010.

President Obama took the HAMP program a step further and expanded it to include the HAFA program in order to help borrowers who were not getting any help from the HAMP program because, either they did not qualify for the refinance program or they were not able to keep up their loan modifications offered by the HAMP program.

Now borrowers have an alternative that will allow them to work directly with a Realtor, negotiate a pre approved short sale listing, and stay in their house during the marketing and negotiating process. Borrowers have certain responsibilities and incentives, while the servicers also have added responsibilities and incentives. This sounds like a dream come true for the frustrated real estate professional and the maligned borrower victim to predatory lending.
